DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

 

The Department of Philosophy started its journey in the year 1970. This department tries to guide students not only for pursing the academic aspect, but also put in real endeavour to guide them in understanding and implementing the higher objectives of life. This department combines and pays equal respect to all the different types of philosophical, religious, sociological and ethical values, which mankind in general should abide with in order to enhance the quality of living. These aspects of knowledge help the students to develop a synchronized form of both reason and experience so that they can build a pragmatic outlook towards life. It offers courses for both Honours and General / Programme categories. This department presently comprises three teachers and a rolling strength of about 109 students in average every year for Honours category.

The students of the department have access to a rich source of books as available in the Departmental seminar library. The existing total number of books in Seminar Library is around two hundred and thirty five. The log book for borrowing is maintained by the teacher who is in charge of the seminar library.

     c. Orientation Seminar:

1.Student seminar

 

 

A student seminar (for 1st and 2nd yr. students) was held on 30.11.2015 where students presented paper on various issues like teacher student relationship, different problems that the first year students face while coping up with an entirely new environment of a college  and what can be a possible remedy, how students can themselves co-operate amongst themselves(even an interdisciplinary approach, like in case of studies or if there is any language problem etc) and accommodate well with many unknown problems or uneasiness which sometimes pose serious problems.

2.Orientationseminar for the first year students

The student orientation program(for 1st Yr. student) is a usual part of the academic calendar of the department, where the teachers of the department take initiatives in delivering lectures on both academic awareness as well as on general health and sanitation or cleanliness guidelines. The academic awareness includes the proper management of time in case of studies or measures that can be employed for better ways of presentation of a thought through writings. The cleanliness guidelines may include in keeping their departmental classrooms clean etc.

3. Awareness programme:

 

A student awareness program was held on 30.11.2015 which was actually a part of the Minor Research Project (MRP) of Dr. Bhumika Kanjilal. The prime speaker of the awareness program was Dr. Bhumika Kanjilal. The lecture was on Chitta-vritti and process of Chitta-vritti nirodha.This lecture was based on Yoga Darshana and the various ways that Yoga appeals us to know the mind or Chitta and its various modifications or vrittis. The nature of mind was also explained in this program.
