DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

The Department of Chemistry at Durgapur Government College is one of the best centers for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in chemistry under the affiliation of the KaziNazrul University. Since 1972, undergraduate honours as well as general courses are taught in the department. The post-graduate course in chemistry commenced in this campus in the year 2008 under the affiliation of the University of Burdwan. Presently, the Department offers three-year BSc(Honours) courses and two-year MSc courses (with Organic/Physical Chemistry as special papers). The Department ensures a good deal of faculty-student interaction and academic flexibility. Student evaluation is ensured by continuous internal assessments throughout the year. The overall performance of our students in the university examinations as well as in competitive examinations is quite satisfactory. Many of the undergraduate students go for pursuing higher studies to other reputed postgraduate/Research institutes in India and other foreign countries. Our Post Graduate students also succeed in getting very good placements for research/teaching assignments at leading reputed Institutes. At present, it is the sole department under KaziNazrul University where postgraduate teaching in Chemistry is offered.
